What are some good social networks to make new friends / dating?

I do not like paying dating sites - But I have tried to label and is a market mass meat - I want something that is a little above the market and not attract people openly selling sex ... Are there any social or free dating sites that are for professionals. I have also tried Facebook and MySpace, but did not impress ...

I tried to find one, but have had no luck. I did meet and friends here.
